LEarn about Rylee Moore's Journey at BSC
Congratulations to our November 2025 Athlete of the Month, Rylee Moore!
Where were you in your fitness journey before BSC and where are you now?
Before discovering CrossFit, I didn’t know much about lifting weights or how to train properly but I knew I wanted to start building healthy habits into my daily life. On a random Thursday in 2019, I decided to challenge myself and try out a local CrossFit gym in my college town. I quickly fell in love—not just with the workouts but the sense of community that CrossFit brings. After graduating from OSU, I moved back home to Portland, started a new job, and went through a big life change of losing my dad to cancer in 2022. With all that going on, I did not have the ability to continue my crossfit journey and took a year off working out.
Eventually, I realized I deeply missed crossfit so I gave BCF a try! From the moment I walked in, it felt like coming home. Derek and Mike were incredibly welcoming, and so was everyone in my first class. I quickly found my rhythm again, and the 4:30pm class became my go-to. It’s now the highlight of my day and something I look forward to after work. My dad always told me “you can do anything you put your mind to” and BCF reminds me of that daily! I’m grateful for the coaches and members of this gym because they’re always encouraging and pushing me to reach my goals!
What were your goals when you started, and have you achieved any of them?
My goals when I started were overall to build strength. Since starting at BCF, I have Pr’d all my lifts like back squat, bench, and deadlift. Recent goals have been to work towards a strict pull up and back squatting 200lbs! I’m at 170lbs currently. Slowly but surely getting there!
What about BSC makes you keep coming back?
The people, of course! I love seeing my friends when I come in and catching up with them during the warm-up and after class. I feel so lucky to have met some incredible people that I hang out with in and outside of the gym. These people encourage me to lift heavier (no sandbagging!) and be more confident in my skills. We help each other, and even if I’m not having a great workout day for whatever reason, I always leave the gym in a better mood because of the amazing people at BSC.
When/what was your "ah ha!" moment?
I’ve had a lot of “aha” moments recently, which is really exciting. It feels like all the little things I’ve been working on over the years are finally coming together—like trusting I won’t crumble under a heavy lift, consistent double unders, and even kipping pull-ups, which I never thought I would get. Derek, Lauren, and Natalie give great cues when I’m working out. I also think believing in yourself and having confidence goes a long way!
Does anyone at the gym (member or trainer) inspire you and why?
Seriously, everyone! There are days when I look around the gym and admire everyone’s ability to succeed at the level that they’re at. It doesn’t matter your athletic background or age—I’m always impressed by members trying their best at movements that I’m sure we would never attempt to do at a commercial gym. I will shout out the 4:30pm class, specifically Richie, Damascus, Doug, AJ and Rob. They’re so encouraging and always give me a laugh when we’re warming up on the bikes. I also have to mention the women of BSC. Again, so inspiring to see women of all ages go after lifts that are two or three times their body weight and totally crushing it! All while throwing in a few dance moves in between reps. The women at this gym are badass, and I love seeing it every day
