LEarn about Brandon Stone's Journey at BSC
Congratulations to our August 2026 Athlete of the Month, Brandon Stone!
Where were you in your fitness journey before BSC and where are you now?
Before BSC, I was living in Eugene OR and going to Crossfit classes at Eugene Crossfit. Been hooked on Crossfit since 2012, where I started going to classes at Crossfit Oyster Point in Virginia when I was active duty in the Air Force. Watching Rich Froning on ESPN win the Crossfit Games in 2012 was the "gotcha" moment for me. Plus people kept saying my butt was looking bigger and bigger after a few months going hahaha
Just enjoying the ride and hoping I'm getting better each day in one way or another. Doing this for 14 years has given me so much in terms of helping my mental and physical well being and I can't imagine life without it. If only I toned down all the pizza and deserts...oops
What were your goals when you started, and have you achieved any of them?
Some of my goals when I started was to just keep that sports/competition feeling part of my life going. I played basketball and baseball back in high school and played college rugby as well. Another goal was to be like Rich Froning and win the Crossfit Games, but then my first Crossfit class started and almost passed out...sooo yeah... My goals turned into just keep getting stronger and hope to finish in any place but last in local competitions.
I'd say I've definitely gotten stronger and wish I could tell teenage Brandon that he would gain almost 90lbs on this journey and not to take any of the pointless weight gainer and things. I was such a toothpick haha
What about BSC makes you keep coming back?
I'd say currently, getting to come to the gym with my wife Katie has been a big driver. Never had that in my life before her and I'll forever love each and every chance I get to come workout with her here. This gym is perfect for us. Another reason would be the community. I've been to quite a few Crossfit gyms and this one just feels so cozy. Everyone is so easy to talk to and the coaches are great to work with.
When/what was your "ah ha!" moment?
My "aha!" moment was when I got to go to my first Crossfit Games watch party. The owners of my first Crossfit gym did the event at their house and the place was full of around 50 people. We had the best time and it felt like I was accepted into this new family...cult...I mean family...hahaha....
Does anyone at the gym (member or trainer) inspire you and why?
I mean my wife is inspiring me daily when I see how fast her PRs are coming in. She's trying to take the double unders crown away from me and I can't let that happen too haha.
I've seen so many people come in and out of this gym and it's amazing to watch people progress after all the years. You all are amazing
