After one workout outside of her own fitness routine, she was both inspired and humbled by the athletes around her. Over the next year, CrossFit started to become more and more a part of her life. She developed friendships with the people working alongside her, gained physical and mental strength and accomplished goals beyond her expectations.
Sasha’s journey as a coach started by becoming a yoga instructor and then soon after in 2012, becoming certified to teach CrossFit. Since then she has attended several olympic lifting seminars, competed in local CrossFit competitions, and participated in local relay runs every year.
Outside of coaching at BCF, Sasha also works for a sports rehab clinic assisting doctors in treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries. This experience has added to her knowledge base about exercise physiology and has influenced her coaching methods. Jesse Gunnell – Coach

Jesse found his love for CrossFit in high school where one of his football coaches had them doing named workouts such as “Helen” and “Fran” to stay in shape. Once Jesse got to college, he did everything he could to participate, even if that meant running up and down stairs at a local gym to complete a workout. A year later in 2014, Jesse joined a CrossFit gym in Corvallis with Coach Hayley and has never stopped since.

When Jesse was 14, he broke his tibia and fibula and tore nearly every muscle in his right knee after a bad hit during a football game. After being told he may never walk again, Jesse has gone on to be a very successful athlete having participated on a Regional Team in 2017 and has CrossFit to thank for his health. Although Jesse doesn’t compete in many competitions anymore after having a baby girl in June 2018, he still enjoys the competitive spirit CrossFit brings out in him and strives to beat Coach Hayley in any WOD he can.

Jesse’s favorite part about coaching is pushing athletes out of their comfort zone and sharing in their excitement when they hit a PR!

Hayley Gooding – Coach

Hayley found CrossFit back in 2013 after graduating high school. She was a competitive gymnast and track athlete and didn’t find joy in just running to stay in shape. Her dad had started doing CrossFit a few months prior and convinced her and her two sisters to give it a try and it is something that has kept her family close for many years. She then went to a CrossFit gym for 4 years while going to Oregon State to complete her Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. Hayley started at BCF in the Spring of 2016 and helped during breaks but has loved being back since finishing college.

Throughout her CrossFit experience she has attended multiple competitions including the CrossFit regionals two times (as an individual in 2016 and on a team in 2017) and has never lost her love for the lifestyle, even while being pregnant and after having a baby girl with coach Jesse in June 2018.

Hayley loves teaching gymnastics movements and helping athletes learn how to strategize workouts to reach their fullest potential and reach their goals in and out of the gym.

Drew Rivera – Coach

Drew grew up in Bend, OR and then headed to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon. Drew found CrossFit in college when he was looking for a new training program in between sport seasons. He immediately jumped in feet first and decided to put his years of gymnastic coaching to use and got his CrossFit Level 1. He was able to compete on a team at the NW CrossFit Regional Games three years in a row, his favorite event being the handstand walk.

Before CrossFit Drew was always active, first as a nationally ranked competitive gymnast, then as a track athlete in high school and then again in college as a part of the U of O’s rowing team and stunting cheerleading team. Today, Drew stays active outside the gym in his job as a Firefighter/Paramedic and by taking his puppy Chief on walks and hikes.

Drew is truly passionate about coaching and is inspired by the athletes he gets to work with. He is dedicated to fitness because he sees the improvement it brings to people’s health – both mentally and physically. Colleen Cushing – Coach

Colleen was a “late bloomer” to the world of athletics.  Never having played a sport in high school or college, Colleen found fitness as an adult and it changed her life. It became a source of passion and revealed an inner drive that she never knew existed.  Although she was an avid runner and triathlete for years, she was looking for something different while trying to juggle work and life with two small boys.  She started CrossFit in November 2011 and was hooked from the start. Colleen firmly believes that CrossFit has the ability to make athletes not only physically stronger, but also brings confidence in all aspects of daily life.  Because CrossFit challenges individuals every day to do things they have never done before, they gain confidence outside the gym to try new things.

In fact, CrossFit gave Colleen the confidence to leave the full-time corporate world after 20 year to become certified as a personal trainer and a CrossFit Trainer.

Colleen’s primary motivation is being able to experience the change in athletes first-hand as they grow and develop.  “Seeing the smile on an athlete’s face when they accomplish their goals is something I will never tire of.”

Emilee is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer who resides in Forest Grove, Oregon. Hailing from Seattle, Washington, her passion for fitness began early on and has stayed with her ever since.

Throughout the span of several years, Emilee has gained knowledge in personal training, coaching and group fitness instruction (swimming/indoor cycling). As a former collegiate athlete, she has also been a USA Swimming Olympic Trial competitor and a NCAA All-American. After retiring from swimming, Emilee struggled to find an exercise program with the same fun and competitive spirit that swimming offered. When she discovered CrossFit in 2013, she loved the challenge of learning new movements and lifts, and especially loved the supportive community that made her want to keep coming back!

Michelle is a yoga instructor on a mission to expand the reputation of western yoga; to teach people it is for everyone; the spiritual and non-spiritual alike, men, women, the inflexible, old, young, strong, weak and so on. Her goal is to provide a versatile and well-rounded class to welcome newbies and also challenge the more practiced yogi. She aspires to share her knowledge and passion for yoga through teaching while creating a playful and laid back atmosphere. She believes life is too short to be too serious and has been known to crack jokes during class. To that end, she provides the guidance and encouragement that allow her students to enjoy a fun, safe practice.

When she’s not yoga-ing, you can find Michelle rock climbing, hiking, watching college football (Go Gators!),  playing mom to her two kiddos and wife to her army man, enjoying good food and craft beer, paddle boarding, binging Netflix or exploring new places. It’s all about balance. Pun intended.
