After some intense peer pressure in 2011, Sasha gave in and tried a CrossFit workout for the first time. After one workout outside of her own fitness routine, she was both inspired and humbled by the athletes around her. Over the next year, CrossFit started to become more and more a part of her life. She developed friendships with the people working alongside her, gained physical and mental strength and accomplished goals beyond her expectations.
Sasha’s journey as a coach started by becoming a yoga instructor and then soon after in 2012, becoming certified to teach CrossFit. Since then she has attended several olympic lifting seminars, competed in local CrossFit competitions, and participated in local relay runs every year.
Outside of coaching at BCF, Sasha also works for a sports rehab clinic assisting doctors in treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries. He immediately jumped in feet first and decided to put his years of gymnastic coaching to use and got his CrossFit Level 1. He was able to compete on a team at the NW CrossFit Regional Games three years in a row, his favorite event being the handstand walk.

Before CrossFit Drew was always active, first as a nationally ranked competitive gymnast, then as a track athlete in high school and then again in college as a part of the U of O’s rowing team and stunting cheerleading team. Today, Drew stays active outside the gym in his job as a Firefighter/Paramedic and by taking his puppy Chief on walks and hikes.

Drew is truly passionate about coaching and is inspired by the athletes he gets to work with. He is dedicated to fitness because he sees the improvement it brings to people’s health – both mentally and physically. Colleen Hill – Coach

Colleen grew up surrounded by sports, brothers, and Seahawk fans in Lynnwood, Washington. She played competitive soccer for 11 years and was on a nationally ranked team. After tearing her ACL in high school one of her brothers suggested she try CrossFit to help regain her strength. Between soccer, track, and high school she wasnt quite ready for CrossFit.

Fast forward two years and a bad break-up later, a different brother suggested CrossFit to help her again find her strength but in a different way. Her love for CrossFit has grown over the last 7 years. While juggling school, CrossFit was her outlet for stress and making new friends who would support her as she navigated college obstacles. The love of community followed her to New Zealand where she found a local gym to workout at while living there for a few months. While in New Zealand she competed in multiple weight lifting meets as well as a few local competitions. Even though she was thousands of miles from home, she never felt lonely because of the CrossFit community she found overseas.

Last year she and her fiance moved down to Oregon to pursue their goals. Colleen surprisingly met Mike and Christine one week before moving to Oregon while they were up in Washington for a dance convention. They dropped in at a box which happened to be the one Colleen worked out at the time. Call it fate but BCF was her home before even moving down here and the last year and a half have been nothing short of amazing.

Colleen has a passion for teaching and supporting others as they find both their mental and physical strengths while at the gym. She believes everyone is capable and is looking forward to helping others achieve their goals.

Dean Durfee – Coach

Dean was born and raised right here in Oregon. He has spent the last 22 years in retail management and is currently the Captain (General Manager) of your local Trader Joe’s. Dean has always preferred to be in motion.

In his youth it was Cross-country, wrestling, track and swimming. This progressed to a love of cycling and some adventures with triathlons and distance running. He completed a number of events including The Eugene marathon and The Best in The West Half Iron in 2013.

Dean found obstacle course racing and fell in love with combining endurance and strength to move through a variety of physical challenges as he completed a Spartan Trifecta in 2014. This is when Dean discovered “the sport of fitness,” CrossFit. In the spring of 2014 he decided to give CrossFit a try and signed up for the World Wide Open.

Signing up for the Open with no CrossFit experience was an extremely humbling experience.  Dean was surrounded by athletes and coaches who praised effort, recognized small improvements, and encouraged future growth.  He has been with the community at Beaverton CrossFit ever since.
